Eating Out in Czech Republic

Eating out in the Czech Republic can be quite cheap compared to some of its Western European counterparts. Some of the best restaurants can be quite small, so if you are planning to treat yourself in some of Prague, Ostrava or Plze’s top restaurants make sure and book early to avoid disappointment.

The national dish is roast pork, sauerkraut (chopped or shredded cabbage fermented in its own juice) and dumplings. Most national dishes include meat, dumplings and rice or potatoes.

In comparison to other nationalities, Czech people eat relatively early, and by 10am they are already enjoying a snack. The main course is usually served around midday.

In Prague, the best areas to wine and dine in are around the backstreets round Národní Trída (much of this area is undiscovered by tourists) and Wenceslas Square, among other areas.
All of the country’s main city’s are home to restaurants serving national cuisine, as well as other international food.
